Venues

Berwyn Leisure Park

A litte used venue Aqueduct classics, we last visited this land back in July 2013 before using it again in 2018. Located approx 3 miles after the village of Llanarmon Dyfryn Cieriog. Set in an open airy valley between steep hillsides, with a flowing stream down the centre, it is a venue which provides a down hill mountain biking track as well as extreme Enduros as put on by nationally renowned WOR events. There is plenty of scope to provide a multitude of sections to suit all abilities.

Directions: Llanarmon LL20 7LH, sign posted from Gledrid roundabout on the A5, with green arrows. An approximate Google Map reference can be found here.

Carrog Isa

Overlooking the beautiful Vale of Llangollen, Carrog Issa offers a good range of different terrain. The lower embankment on the edge of the wooded hillside has been used for several different sections including a great jumble of exposed rocks and tree roots in the left hand corner. Following the motocross track up the hillside, reveals the first of many stream sections with a drop down a long grassy bank to enter the stream at the base of a climb, up the water flow to then emerge back onto the track using a choice of exits of differing severity. Follow the track another 100 yards and the stream opens up again with several cambered embankments and rocks steps in the stream which always steal a few marks. There’s potential for 4 or 5 sections up this part of the stream and whilst each are different in their own way they all have the common feature of algae covered rocks under the water which make the first few laps very challenging. Higher up the hillside there are many other tree lined embankments with clay and exposed roots the main hazards. There is also a natural bomb-hole with extremely slippy sides. Always a challenging day whatever class you ride but always a firm favorite to go back to.

Directions: The venue will be signposted from the A5 at Llangollen. The address for the main road is Holyhead Road, Glyndwfrdwy, LL21 9EU . From the A483, from North and South at Halton Roundabout (MacDonalds) follow sign A5 Llangollen. After 0.5 mile go right on the roundabout signed A5 Llangollen. After 5.8 miles carry straight on at the traffic lights at the centre Llangollen. Follow A5 for 4.7 miles to the village of Glyndyfrdwy, continue through the village past The Berwyn Arms Pub on the right hand side (5.6 miles). Look out for orange markers to site entrance on left at 6.2 miles from Llangollen. Caution entrance near bend on fast road.

Nant Mawr Quarry

This great venue has not been used by the club for a number of years but in 2018 we returned for the opening round of the season and the same for 2019 onwards. With the sections set around the outer rim of a quarry bowl, it is a great venue for parking as well as spectators. A mixture of muddy banks, quarry elements and a man made pipe section makes this an interesting venue.

The venue is signed with arrows from the Llynclys Crossroads from the A483 onto the A495. Turn by the White Lion Pub. The full address is . Nant Mawr Quarry, NANTMAWR, OSWESTRY SY10 9HJ.

Nant Ucha Farm

This venue offers a great mix of hearty stream sections with a range of banks and cambers along with some great tree strewn banks offering great opportunity’s to demonstrate bike control in the turns. The opening set of sections tend to favour an open gully which depending on the amount of rainfall offers variety at every visit. When the conditions are optimum an area at the top of the stream offers some real challenging Expert route sections but still offering safe rideable conditions for all of the other classes. The majority of the sections tend to be clustered in the main wooded area and this grouping makes it an ideal venue for anyone wanting to come and spectate. A short walk from the car park takes you into the heart of the competition and the mixture of stream sections, some really great climbs and some tight twisty tree routes makes it a great venue for both competitors and those just wishing to watch classic trials at a clubman level. Note: this venue is offered as a practice venue by the land owner

Directions: On the main A483, come off for the A539 at Ruabon heading for Trevor. You will pick the signs up at this point. Follow the A539 towards Trevor and look out for the Duke of Wellington pub on your right hand side. At this point you will see Tower Road just after the pub. Turn right into this road and follow it up the hill for about 5 minutes. Nant Ucha Farm (Google Maps) will be found and signposted from the road. Once you are into the farm lane, follow it past the house and immediately turn right into the field.

Nant Y Ffrith

Junction 4 off the A483 onto the A525 towards Coedpoeth.  Follow the road for approx. 2.6 miles where you will pick up the orange arrows opposite ‘Village Bakery’ onto the B5430.  In 1.8 miles go straight across at the traffic light, crossroads with the A525.  A further 0.8 miles along the B5430 turn right off the main road.  The road narrows to a single track after the cattle grid, beware of livestock, oncoming traffic and horse riders.  At a distance of 1.6 miles follow the road to the left and continue for 0.2 miles to the entrance of Nant Y Ffrith wood.

New Barns Farm

This new venue is a little unknown to us at the point of writing but those who have competed there before report that it’s a mountain top farm, no streams but a bit of woodland with one or two small rocky bits. Between sections is open going.

Directions: Signed from A5/A483 junction onto the B4579. New Barns Farm,Trefonen, Oswestry SY10 9DS.(Google Maps)

Pen Y Graig Quarry

If you like your competitions dry (i.e. no streams), Pen y Graig is a great detour. Don’t think this means easier as this venue is regularly visited by the club team to ensure every inch of its terrain is exploited. The quarry title ensures that as well as the usual mixture of climbs, drops and turns on grassy / earth bare surfaces, a compliment of sections involving challenging rock and shale really test the riders interpretation of the terrain. Once again, another venue that is great for spectators, the longer (but down hill) walk to the venue is well worth it!

Directions: The venue will be signposted on the A5 Llangollen to Corwen road. Google maps shows the rough location as 52°57’26.9″N 3°05’09.0″W and appears to be on the same road as Fron Uchaf Farm (Google Maps).

Plas Onn

A proper wet one offering 3 very different areas with flowing water and a mixture of dry bed gullies and flowing climbs. Always one to get a strong turnout and certainly a venue that favours those taking their first steps into the sport on the beginners route. The section above the parking area offers a great selection of banked section that can run straight through the flowing stream with some great steps for the more challenging classes and cambered banks to offer great ascents and descents. Moving across the fields, the individual fields are bordered by some great gullies. Not always wet but the stream beds offer a great range of challenges. The final stretch of sections as you approach the car parking from the other direction moves back to the wet stuff with the opportunity for 3 really strong sections based back in the stream with lower banks but a selection of rock steps to continually challenge all classes.

Directions: Signposted from the A5 roundabout near Chirk at the junction of B5070 and Station Road (Gledrid Roundabout). This is on the A5 between the McDonalds and the Lion Quays Hotel. Main road close to venue: SY10 7NX (B4579) Selattyn, after Craignant and close to Carreg Farm on Google Maps. Venue is accessed by following track off of the main road.

Swans Farm

Whilst not used as a competition venue by Aqueduct, this venue is offered as a practice site by the land owner and offers a great range of stream and banked terrain for all trials bike types and abilities.

Directions: The Google Maps location for Swans Farm can be found here. Once you arrive you need to ensure that you pay the owner for access at the shop.
