Specials Events New Years Day - Charity Tug O War

Photos from last years event...

What is it?

Over that last few years, the club has got into a tradtion of celebrating the New Year with a Charity Tug-O-War near the Aqueduct (and the football field by the old peoples bungalows) and then having a bit of a social gathering of food and drink plus a raffle in the local pub. Basically two teams are formed, the Tug-O-War take place OVER the canal with one team getting pulled in! You then get changed and go into the pub.....

Each year a charity is chosen to benefit from this, and for 2020, half will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support. This will be donated via a second event being carried out by one of the club members (Rob Sloggett) who has put together a team to do one of the Macmillan "Mighty Hikes". These are basically a marathon distance hike (26 miles) in a single day. Macmillan are running 7 of these next year and Rob and a team of (currently 6) other walkers will be hiking across the Lake District on Saturday 20th June 2020. Each person has to raise £250 (so currently a target of £1750 combined) and the club is going to gift the proceeds of our New Year TugOWar into their sponsorhip funds.

The other half will be going to North East Rescue in memory of David Watson.
